The Dewey Decimal Classification System

We use the Dewey Decimal system to classify our non-fiction and reference materials. This chart lists the subjects found in each section.

000 GENERALITIES
100 PHILOSOPHY & PSYCHOLOGY
200 RELIGION
300 SOCIAL SCIENCE
400 LANGUAGE
500 PURE SCIENCE
600 APPLIED SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
700 ARTS
800 LITERATURE
900 HISTORY

Biographies, autobiographies and many memoirs are classified under B for individuals and BC for materials about more than one person. All titles classified as B and BC are shelved following the 900s.

Fiction (novels and short stories) is classified under F and arranged either alphabetically by author or, in the case of collections by more than one author, by title. Fiction is shelved after biographies.
