Sample Annotated Bibliography Entry

Cite the source as usual (see our Bibliographic Citations Format handout), then move to a new line, indent, and write your citation:

“Babylonia.” The New Columbia encyclopedia. Ed. William H. Harris and Judith S. Levey. 4th ed. New York :
    Columbia University Press, 1975.
The text describes where the old empire of Mesopotamia was located and in what period it was most prominent.
Achievements, such as the cuneiform writing and the code of laws for governing the empire, are mentioned, as well as the     importance of Babylonia for later civilizations of Assyria and Persia. The brief encyclopedia entry gives a very concise     history of the most important points and is useful as an overview of Babylonian history.
